Sound, On-Site Radiology

Mayfair Animal Hospital has on-site radiology equipment to provide high-quality x-rays. Radiographs are able to show some bone disorders like cancer, fractures, and arthritis. X-rays are also used to help diagnose internal disorders such as pneumonia, congestive heart failure, bladder stones, foreign bodies, and some intestinal disorders.

Ultrasounds Given by Our Trained Radiologists

We also offer ultrasonography performed by a team of board-certified radiologists. An ultrasound allows us to visualize the internal organs and to look for the presence of any abnormalities. It is a tool that is an extremely valuable aid in helping to diagnose many internal diseases.

Safe & Thorough Laboratory Testing

At Mayfair Animal Hospital in Cary, we offer a variety of laboratory tests, so that we can accurately diagnose your pet and determine the best treatment plan.

Our laboratory tests offered include:

  • CBC: A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to measure and evaluate cells that circulate in the blood. A CBC may be useful as a screening test for underlying infection, anemia, and certain types of cancers. In some cases, the results of the CBC will prompt us to recommend additional diagnostic tests.
  • Chemistry: The blood chemistry allows us to analyze the kidney, liver, thyroid, and other organ systems to screen for abnormalities.
  • Glucose Curves: The glucose curve is an ideal tool for determining insulin effectiveness in diabetic pets.
  • Coagulation Profiles: This allows us to detect certain clotting disorders that may impact not only your pet's health, but also influence our surgical plan/options.
  • Urinalysis: Urinalysis not only detects urinary tract infections and crystals, but will also give us an idea of overall kidney health. Early kidney disease can sometimes be detected on the urinalysis even before it is evident in blood work.
  • Fecal Cytology: Cytology is one of the most frequently implemented diagnostics used for evaluation of the gastrointestinal system. Fecal samples are examined to check for abnormal organisms that could be present.
  • Fecal Float: A fecal flotation test is a diagnostic test performed to diagnose parasites (worms) in animals. Organisms that can be detected include round worms, hook worms, whip worms, tapeworms, and other parasites that may live and feed within the intestines of dogs and cats.
  • Heartworm/Tick Borne Disease Test: We use an antigen-testing heartworm/vector borne disease test, which gives us results within eight minutes from a blood sample from your pet.
  • Ear Cytology: An ear cytology is a laboratory procedure that works in conjunction with a physical ear examination using an otoscope. This test checks for the presence of bacteria and/or yeast that are too small to see with the naked eye.
