Dr. Teri Smith joined Mayfair in 2012 as an Associate Veterinarian. She is a native of Shelby, NC and attended North Carolina State University for her undergraduate coursework. Dr. Smith earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Dental Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Her special interests in veterinary medicine are dentistry, caring for geriatric patients and feline medicine.
Dr. Smith enjoys working in the veterinary field because of the opportunity to improve the health and well-being of her patients by helping them live longer and happier lives. Helping to strengthen the bond between patients and their families is another aspect of her job that she loves. The opportunity to build lifelong relationships with her patients and their families is one of the main reasons Dr. Smith enjoys working at Mayfair. She also credits her co-workers with why she loves her job. Dr. Smith says "my co-workers are passionate about providing quality care for our patients and their families, and they maintain a good sense of humor and are just fun to spend time with." The Smith family share their home with six rescue pets, Cookie, Spike, Shelby and Bindi the dogs and Ricochet and Felix the kitties.
Dr. Smith and her husband have lived in Cary for more than 25 years and have three adult children. In her free time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with friends/family, team trivia, reading, traveling and participating in agility and therapy work with her dogs.
